GBM Demands K14 Million in Second M’membe Suit Former defence minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba yesterday gave Fred M’membe and The Post Newspapers 24 hours to apologise for alleging he had interests in companies that tendered for a Zesco deal when records show otherwise. GBM has already sued Fred M’membe and his PF aligned Post Newspaper for defamation following a false report claiming he was on the Copperbelt disparaging the ruling party when in fact not. In that legal suit, GBM is demanding K25 million for defamation. This means the Lusaka businessman has in two days issue demand letters demanding K39 million (K39 billion old currency). His lawyers Makebi Zulu stated that an article entitled “Police Question GBM’s Daughter Sibongile Over Zesco Deal” was malicious as it neglected professional ethics to publish untruths about the business tycoon. “In your publications, you do state as follows; other companies, according to the document, that bid for the Zesco contract and where Geoffrey Mwamba, who is also Kasama Central PF member of parliament, allegedly has an interest include Engilex, who bid price for the contract was 14 billion, Premia Supplies limited with a bid price of US $337, 500 and Astro Holdings Limited with a bid price of US $405, 000,” Mwamba’s lawyer states. Zulu says GBM does not have any interest in the companies The Post alleges he had. “Had you cared to verify with Patents and Company’s Registration Agency [as we did], you would have found that our client has had no interest in the alleged companies,” he stated. zambiareports/2014/02/06/gbm-demands-k14-million-second-mmembe-suit/
