GEM on System Management I think the more important criteria - TopicsExpress

GEM on System Management I think the more important criteria is your ability to reason through what needs to be done and to understand the ramifications of those things that need to be accomplished and that there are ways of getting them done. So apparently not many people can think of a system as a whole and look at all of the pieces and understand how they fit together. I once tried to teach systems engineering and it isn’t easy to teach. It is something you more or less have built into your brain cells, I guess, when you are born as much as anything else, because for most people it’s difficult to think of all of the ramifications of all of the interfaces around whatever it is that are coming up. And that talent however is obviously exceedingly important in something like Apollo…And in the case of Apollo you needed to know both the technical systems side of it but also the human systems side of it and also the external constraints that determine how do you make the system work. And that apparently is a rare talent. 9/09
