GEO-6 consultation! UNEP is funding participation for one person from each constituency to participate in the Global Environment Outlook report (GEO-6) consultation in Berlin, Germany from 21 to 23 October. The deadline for application is end of day September 6. Criteria from UNEP: • Participants at the global consultation should be at the highest possible policy and/or science advisory level. • Nominees are expected to have a thorough understanding of environmental and developmental challenges and priorities • work experience in the environmental sciences, economics or policy fields • fluent in verbal, read and written English required • priority to organizations based in developing countries • Nominees organization needs to be accredited to a United Nations body Criteria from UNEP MGCY: • Nominee needs to be under the age of 30 at the time of the consultation • Nominee should have studied or worked on environmental themes from a children/youth perspective or issue • Nominee should have a background of involvement with UNEP MGCY (priority), or with another youth constituency (e.g. YOUNGO or MGCY) • Nominee will need to coordinate with UNEP MGCY for the consultation • We need to be able to call (Phone or Skype) the nominee and a reference from their organization on September 8 for verification. The GEO assessment is a core UNEP activity aimed at keeping the global environment under review; to date five assessments have been published on various time scales (1997,1999, 2002 and 2007 and 2012). In accordance with Resolution UNEP/EA.1/L.6, UNEP is requested to “undertake the preparation of the sixth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6), supported by UNEP Live, with the scope, objectives and procedures of GEO-6 to be defined by a transparent global intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder consultation’. The aim of the global consultation is to agree the objectives, scope and processes for GEO-6, which will culminate in the production of the GEO-6 assessment report and a Summary for Policy Makers. Invitations to the global consultation are being extended to all Governments, relevant intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and the scientific community in order to strengthen the evidence base, policy relevance and ultimately the impact of the assessment. Participants at the global consultation should be at the highest possible policy and/or science advisory level. Nominees are expected to have a thorough understanding of environmental and developmental challenges and priorities as well as work experience in the environmental sciences, economics or policy fields. They will also need to have an appropriate level of English to be able to effectively communicate during the consultation, as no interpretation will be provided.
