GET IT RIGHT! If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? ~ Psalms 11:3 A lady walked up to me one Sunday in church after ministration and expressed her concerns about the church. It happened that she has been asked to enrol for baptismal class after she had graduated from believers’ class. She was of the opinion that it’s needless for her to enrol since she had already been baptised in her previous church by immersion. I encouraged her to go on and enrol for the class because it will take nothing from her to be re-baptised, it was proper for her to fulfill the desires of the church she has now found herself. Thank God she was pleased with the response and hopefully she must have been re-baptised by now. Why are some ministries or churches strict on some of these issues, it’s because they want to be certain that the foundations be not faulty. The word translated foundations in the opening scripture means the bases or purposes for doing a thing(s). If you don’t get it right on purpose, what can the righteous do? The scripture reveals in Acts 19:1-7, that Paul met some believers in Ephesus. He asked them just as Peter and John did when they went to Samaria (Acts 8:15), if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed. This 12-man church reported that they had never heard of anything as the Holy Ghost talkless of receiving Him. They also revealed that their baptism was on a faulty foundation because instead of them being baptised unto Christ, they were rather baptised unto John. Do you know that they were re-baptised – Acts 19:5 says, “When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Why? Because the foundation, the basis or purpose of baptism was destroyed. The righteous had to get it right this time. The fault wasn’t that of these 12men, neither of him that brought the gospel to them – Apollos. He didn’t know better more than what he taught these men; and these errors hindered these men from the experience of the new birth and of the Holy Spirit. So, this isn’t about immersion or sprinkling; both way, it can be done wrongly and the foundation or purpose destroyed. A lot of believers are out there in the dark because of several wrong doctrines they have been taught or the absent of right teachings. Can you imagine the Christian life without the Holy Spirit? The early believers had to tarry for His coming before they could venture out unto the preaching of the gospel. It is a prerequisite for every believer not just to be baptised with the Holy Spirit but also to be full of the Spirit. These can only be possible when the bases or the foundations are right. In case you are asked to go through any process all-over, it’s not because all other denominations are building on faulty foundations, it is to guarantee your safety. That you lose nothing out of what is the riches of our inheritance in the saints. Shalom! Publication of TWEinc.
