GET MY NEW CD AT MUSICA RIGHT NOW: Kwesta’s career started in 2006 when he emerged on the scene as a battle rapper winning crowns such as Y-FM’s Rap activity Jam and E-TV Freestyle Kings, having never lost a battle. His first single Shap Fede became a ghetto anthem after it was released in 2007 which was followed up by a Mixtape with legendary Hip-hop DJ C-live & a headline spot on the Sprite Hip-Hoop Tour. In 2010 Kwesta was selected to be a Brand South Africa ambassador, collaborated with African greats like 2-Face, Jozi & others on MTN’s Everywhere You Go anthem which featured, Destiny Childs Kelly Rowland (USA). This culminated in a performance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup closing ceremony which was watched by 500million people worldwide. His debut album Special Rekwest was then released in September 2010 and went on to earn him two SAMA nominations in categories Best Rap Album & Best Newcomer. In 2011 he was also named World’s grittiest rapper by New York based online magazine SOHH and E-TV Showbiz Report’s Rising Star of The Year which was followed up by a Most Gifted Newcomer nomination for his single Take That at the Channel-O Music Video Awards that same year. His latest smash hit Boom Shaka Laka featuring Kid-X was arguably the biggest local release of 2012 and gave the public a taste of what to expect on this sophomore album that re-introduces Kwesta to listeners. His growth is the first thing youll notice on the record and by the end of it youll hear theres a lots more to him than clever one liners and catchy hooks. Its a 16 track auto-biography that chronicles his rise to fame, his love life and his new life as a father. Lauded by critics it has already been nominated in the Best Rap Album category at the 20th Annual South African Music Awards and thats why it comes as no surprise that it was voted Best Hip-hop Album at the 13th Annual Metro FM Music Awards becoming the first digital release to achieve such a feat in South African music history. The prince has come of age, so its no more Mr Cool guy and all hail DaKAR – Da King of Afrikan Rap.
