GETTING PRESENT...DIS-ASSOCIATION AND FOOD When we are not present, we are unable to make the kind of choices that are grounded and stable and we can easily turn to food out of emotion or discomfort of some kind. In other words- to make healthy choices, we must be present, in the HERE and NOW .If you feel the need to “escape” from reality, or are for some reason not wanting to be in the present moment, stress and anxiety will build up and disassociation will kick in. In a state of disassociation, the FOOD can become very “loud”. In other words, it is very difficult to make conscious choices when you are unconscious ( disassociated).By being 100% PRESENT wherever you are, you are able to make choices that are conscious, and congruent to being your BEST self. In this way, you will be able to experience the true sensation of HUNGER. When you are able to bring awareness to the present moment and “ get into the body”, you experience a PAUSE in which you have the ability to ask: am I hungry? What am I hungry for? When did I last eat? What would be the best choice right now? Is this nourishing for my body? Am I present? You make thoughtful decisions rather than impulsive or compulsive ones. Does this mean you ALWAYS make “healthy choices”. Not necessarily! But whatever you CHOOSE to eat, it will be a mindful choice and you will not experience guilt or shame because of it.
