Northern California Boys Sweep BC Trip School Age - Boys The Northern California Boys HS All-Star team swept all four matches in their tour of British Columbia last week. The Pelicans shocked, somewhat, their hosts as they were hardly challenged, and, in two matches just flat-out crushed their opponents. On June 18, the JV team took on the Fraser Valley U16s. Fielding a team of 9th- and 10th-graders, the NorCal squad won 93-0, with scrumhalf Erik Cortinas of Peninsula Green and back Tyler Rouse of Granite Bay both scoring two tries. Fullback Halapio Latu (Peninsula Green) and flanker Siaosi Mahoni (East Palo Alto) both contributed 12 points to the effort. In the varsity game, Hayward No. 8 Anthony Fotu scored three tries, and nine other players touched down as Northern California won 68-3 over the Fraser Valley U18s. On June 20, the JV squad faced West Vancouver U16s, and the forwards - Juan Cervanted, Joshua Warnock, and Sione Manukainu, all from Peninsula Green - led the scoring in a 34-14 victory. To cap off the trip, the Northern California varsity defeated West Vancouver 26-5. Bryce Mantell and captain and flyhalf Kyle Rogers (both of Granite Bay) scored tries, as did Islanders wing Joeli Tikoisuva and Peninsula Green flanker John Warnock, while center Aidan Flynn of McClatchy kicked three conversions.
