GIVE BACK FRIDAY - (an alternative to black Friday) This year Kay - TopicsExpress

GIVE BACK FRIDAY - (an alternative to black Friday) This year Kay Little Jr. and I are creating GIVE BACK FRIDAY which for us means walking the area where there are a lot of homeless people in Portland and handing out food, clothes, and care bags (consisting of toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.). We did this last year in November and the positive response was overwhelming. What we heard most, in addition to THANK YOU, was folks asking us who we were with. When we told them we were just a couple of folks who cared you could tell that really touched the folks who we were helping. But, as is always the case when you choose to give, we got so much more out of the experience than we gave away. For anyone interested, please feel free to join us. We will be meeting at 10am on Friday November 28th at the Post Office at 715 NW Hoyt. Anyone can come and feel free to share this with anyone you want. A couple of tips: consider cleaning out your closet and handing out some clothes, jackets, hats or scarves (this was such a success last year and it was great to see the old stuff be so cherished BUT if you have fancier or work level attire consider donating to a local dress for success program as the homeless rarely have need for a suit); toiletries are very prized for folks that rarely get a clean shower; and try to stay away from crunchy items as not everyone has the teeth to chew them (no apples or hard granola bars will be handed out by us this year - even though we handed them all out there was a lot of folks that took a pass because of their teeth). For those of you in other locations, consider organizing your own Give Back Friday. While we got a lot out of the personal contact with the folks we gave to, it doesnt have to be that if its not your thing. Whatever you choose to do to Give Back will be appreciated and goes a long way towards helping to make the world a better place! Wishing you all love, peace and joy this Thanksgiving and throughout your entire holiday season!
