GIVE ME A SPOUSE NOW OR I DIE!!! by soji David Lawal The virtue of patience is fast eroding in my generation. It is difficult for people to stay on a queue, to maintain a drive lane, in a jet world of instant noodles, microwaves and fast food. Waiting is outdated, the invogue is ‘get it quick scheme’. I sometime saw a handbill for a single summit and the theme of the programme was “Give me a Husband Now or I Die” (I can’t help it but laugh loud; what a desperation!). And the only scriptural way to get your spouse/job/child is PATIENCE. Heb.10:36-37 says ‘For you have need of patience, that after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise. For yet a little while, he that shall come will come and he will not tarry. Isn’t that scripture revealing? …that doing the will of God alone (fasting, praying, praising, giving etc) does not guarantee the promise, it also require patience. Patience is not just the ability to wait but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting! The irony of this matter is that the married are impatient and are getting divorced while the singles are desperate to marry. I heard a group of believers were praying to God for the fruit of patience and the prayer point was “Lord Give me Patience and Give me Now!” is it not interesting they want patience and they want it now…patience is not just a prayer point is a fruit of the spirit that you consciously cultivate. Patience is not a name of a female child; it’s a kingdom life style. Even the elders in Heb 6:12 could not obtain the promise by faith alone; they needed to add patience… I heard God saying, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31) The above scripture connotes that waiting time is not wasting time. All the time you have been waiting you are only gathering momentum… When things don’t happen right away just remember it takes 6months to build a Rolls-Royce and 13 hours to build Toyota. Some friends are married but they are tired of marriage, they wish they never married. But as you, exchange your waiting period for strength, by the time you get married the hurdles of marriage won’t knock you out instead you will soar. In mark 11:2 we were told of a story of a colt who was tied, and no man have ever sat on it. Every morning she sees other donkey being rode by their masters and wonder why is she tied, why has nobody taken interest in her? Would she die without enjoying the taste of being ridden? Little did she know it was the big master Jesus that reserved her, to save her from brutal riders, to make her the envy of other donkeys, to honour her with a triumphant entry. Maybe your case looks like that donkey, it seems serious minded people are not interested in you, nobody is even noticing you, you attend friend’s wedding every year and they ask you when will it be your turn, when you are not even engaged and it seems time is ticking. Alas, you are being reserved for the best! Your marriage will become a model for other homes. And it doesn’t take God anything to answer your prayers. In Gen 24:15, Eliezer was still praying for a wife for Isaac when Rebecca showed up. Zacharia was still praying for a child in Luke 1:13, when the Angel brought the good news of John’s birth. It was just in a dream that Jacob got the revelation on how to prosper in Laban’s house. I just came to tell you that your patience is about to be rewarded…don’t give up on God.
