Malacanang assures public amid rumors of Metro Manila attack By Kim Arveen Patria | Yahoo! Southeast Asia Newsroom – August 11, 2013- 15 hours ago After several bombing attacks in Mindanao, Malacanang urged the public to be more careful in believing reports about planned bombing missions by Muslim rebels in Metro Manila. “Let’s make sure that it comes from the correct sources because as it is, we don’t want to be spreading incorrect information,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in an interview over state-run dzRB Saturday. She was referring to rumors that a group of young members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters are in Metro Manila to carry out test bombing missions. Such planned explosions are similar to deadly attacks carried out in Cagayan De Oro, Cotabato City, North Cotabato and Maguindanao, reports said. Valte nonetheless assured the public that measures are in place to thwart any other planned explosions and to probe the blasts, which occurred amid a U.S.-issued global terror alert. “Gumagalaw lahat ng kawani ng pamahalaan para siguraduhin na matigil ang mga ganitong pangyayari katulad ng sinabi ng Pangulo noong nakaraang araw,” Valte said. She declined to provide details of government forces’ operations to fend off attacks linked to the breakaway group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front for security reasons. The Palace official further commented that those behind the recent bombings down south seem to be launching the attacks randomly. “Sa mga ganitong pagsabog, talagang random ang ginagawa nilang targets. It’s not about religion, it’s not about your affiliation but it’s being done randomly,” Valte said.
