GLEN McNamara and Roger Rogerson are captured on CCTV carrying the body of Jamie Gao “in a brazen and matter-of-fact way” from a storage unit, a court has been told. Three clips of CCTV footage from May 20, the day it is alleged the pair murdered the 20-year-old student, have been played during a bail application for McNamara in Central Local Court. Crown Prosecutor Christopher Maxwell QC has said Rogerson was inside the unit for six minutes. Mr Gao was shot twice in the chest and his body was found, wrapped in a tarpaulin, floating in waters off Cronulla beach a week later. The court heard that it was “a very powerful case” against the pair, with Mr Maxwell pointing to the significance of McNamara taking his boat from a Taren Point storage facility the day before the murder. Rogerson, who hobbled into the dock of the court, withdrew his application a few minutes after it was announced the three clips of CCTV from May 20 would be played. Mr Maxwell pointed out Rogerson’s “very distinctive gait” on the CCTV footage, and said the disgraced former detective followed McNamara and Mr Gao into the Padstow unit. The court heard McNamara and Rogerson can be see walking out of the unit “both kneeling down, bending and lifting into the back of the car”.
