GLOBAL DIPLOMACY,THE NIGERIAN EXPERIENCE: I have watched with kin interest the recent wave of global diplomacy, this new wave was started by our own dear president Goodluck Jonathan who visited pope Francis at the vatican some weeks ago. The next world leader who paid the same visit was president Barack Obama and its in the news that Queen Elizabeth of England has paid a visit to the Pope at the vatican. It will interest you to know that the visit of these world leaders is on how to reduce poverty, religious crisis which will ensure development and global peace. My interest now is the reaction of various groups and in particular the opposition to the visit by this leaders in their various country. You would recall that here in Nigeria, the main opposition party (APC) was quick to condemn the visit of President Jonathan to the vatican, they made a mockery of him calling him all sorts of names. The opposition saw that visit as a mere tour which has no significance in the economy and the country at large. I almost believed them just like most Nigerians but was shocked when it was announced that President Obama was to visit the Pope to discuse the same issue President Jonathan went to discuse with the Pope. Obama visited the Pope and their was no derogatory statement from the republicans, the worst was the incident that happened in Brussels where the security agents incharge of Obamas visit to Belgium were cought drunk. The rupublicans did not call their president a drunk niether did they see their president as incompetent. Nigerian opposition parties should stop disgracing the office of the president and the institution of democracy. They should learn from other developed nations what opposition is all about. A fourth night a go there was a shooting in Texas and up till now I have not heard the republicans accuse president Obama or call for his resignation instead more enphasies is been laid on the Governor of the state where the incident took place. The way and manner the opposition in Nigeria abuse the office and the person of the president is a disgrace and tells how desperate they are to grab power. Nigerians should be mindful of their antics. The recent statement by a stalwart of APC that religion does not matter to them when chosen their candidate is another testimony that the APC does not put into consideration the diversity of the Nigerian people. If Obama who is a black could chose a white as a running mate,it means that every component of the American society was considered. Lets not decieve ourselves,Nigeria is a multi ethnic and religious country and that should reflect in our dealings, APCs decision to settle for a Muslim-muslim or Christian-Christian ticket spells doom for Nigeria. Finally, the way APC berate our Juciary when a judgement is not in their favour is another important thing to be looked at. APC hails the judiciary when a judgement is in their favour but reduces our judiciary to nothing when the judgement is against them. God is watching I know he will not allow Nigerians fall into the hands of wolves in sheep clothings..... Lazarus Obinna DKF.
