~ GO M.A.D. (Meet a deputy) ~ For several weeks now, the conservative MEPs have been lobbying hard against the amendment calling for a mandatory EIA, with threats to the rapporteur to reject the report, the removal of the compromise amendment - which saw agreement between the Greens, ALDE and S&D - and the postponement of the vote to next week. Given that the vote is now going to be extremely tight, we need to ramp up our campaign otherwise the right-wingers - who basically represent industry interests - will have won a major battle. So in addition to sending letters asking your MEPs on the Environment Committee to support this amendment, ideally what we need to do by next week is to get groups of informed and angry constituents to meet their anti-fracking MEP in their constituency office, demanding that they support our amendments AND telling them that you will be campaigning against them in the upcoming EU elections if they refuse to adopt an anti-fracking stance! We need to target in particular all the MEPs from the EPP, ECR and EFD groups, along with a few ALDE MEPs I know to be pro-fracking. Their names are listed below. If you live in the constituency of any of these MEPs, please contact them asap to request a meeting with them this weekend when they visit their constituencies! Please spread the word!
