Good times are coming, says Sir Terry, while Hezza urges the Government to raise the minimum wage The architects of Liverpool’s International Festival for Business (IFB) – Lord Heseltine and Sir Terry Leahy – have both spoken out today on the state of the UK economy with the former urging the Government to raise the minimum wage. Hezza, the former Minister for Merseyside, said the Prime Minister and the Chancellor should ignore scare stories from business bosses about higher costs leading to job losses. He believes it would boost the recovery. “I have no doubt the pressure groups will forecast catastrophic job losses if the minimum wage is given a boost,” he said. “I do not believe it and I would urge the Government to hold its nerve.” And Liverpool-born Sir Terry, who along with Lord Heseltine laid out plans for what became the hugely successful IFB 2014 in a report called ‘Rebalancing Britain: Policy or Slogan’, said he believes the good times may return to the country in 2015. The former Tesco chief executive explained: “I think the consumer is feeling a little better. Gradually we are coming out of this long recession. Employment is a little better, but importantly you now have wage growth above inflation. “The big change is at the petrol pump.
