By Mahlon WINSTON Papua New Guinea’s 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold medallists Steven Kari and Dika Toua could not expect anything more but their achievements at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland came with a price and a surprise for them as well. With the announcement that the Papua New Guinea Government had promised K100, 000 for any athlete that won Gold at the Commonwealth, Steven and Dika’s win, did put them ahead of others following their superb performance. On Friday proud Sponsors of Dika and Steven Trukai Industries surprised the two Champions during the welcome home reception organised by the Hanuabada community in the village as Trukai Industries Manager-Corporate and Marketing, Mr Andrew Dobney arrived at the village and presented a cheque of K25, 000 each to Dika and Steven while Motu-Koita Assembly Chairman, Mr Miria Ikupu also made a personal donation of another K5, 000 each for the Champion weightlifters. Both echoed similar sentiments in thanking Trukai Industries for their continuous support over the years and always backing them with sponsorships in every event they have taken part in. “What more can I say! It is an absolute Honour for Trukai Industries to be part of their journey and to see them now as champions by winning a Gold medal for their country PNG gives us a great pleasure and we are very proud,” says Mr Dobney. He adds, “For me and my wife to be present in person at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland as their sponsors and witness both of them win medals is something very special and the proudest moment for us.” With these presentations now brings the grand total to K130, 000 each for Dika and Steven.
