GOOD MORNING!!!!!!! WORD FOR TODAY: "Motives" Read Isaiah 36:1 through 38:22 Angela sat by the fireplace reading a book when her seven-year-old son, Justin, timidly walked into the room. Justin was hiding something as he approached the couch, then slowly he pulled out a sheet of waded paper. Justin handed the paper to his mother and quickly ran down the hall. Angela began reading her son’s crayon written “wish list.” Justin’s list included more building blocks, a new puppy, and a baby brother. Angela read the requests again and wondered silently if her prayers to God sounded more like a “wish list” than requests that would glorify God. “Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord, are the only God” (Isaiah 37:20). Hezekiah’s prayer is a great example of what a prayer should include. Hezekiah’s ultimate desire was for God to be glorified. Hezekiah was more concerned with how others perceived his God than he was with anything else. Thought for Today: When you pray, are your motives self-centered or God-centered? Quicklook: Isaiah 37:14–20
