GOOD NEWS FOR THE GREAT PEOPLE OF MANDERA COUNTY:...The Lamu Port Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor (LAPSSET) Project set to be extended to include Moyale-Mandera road... The Lamu Port Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor (LAPSSET) project is set be extended to include the road between Moyale and Mandera. Plans are underway to extend the mega project which was initially designed to connect Kenya and Ethiopia through Moyale. Sources privy to the high level negotiation between leaders from Mandera and the National government told the Mandera Times that plans are at an advanced stage to have the project extended to include the tarmacking of Moyale-Mandera road. Our source, who sought anonymity, since discussions are still underway, further intimates that Industrialization and enterprise development Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohamed Abdulla is leading the negotiations to have the project extended. “The cabinet secretary was tasked by local leaders from Mandera to spearhead the negotiations with the top leadership of the country” added our well placed source. It is believed that the Cabinet Secretary has already got the President Kenyatta’s nod and it is only a matter of time before the Official Redesigning of the Project is done and Official Communication made. The LAPSSET Project which stands as a model project has a potential to completely transform the economic status of the residents of Mandera with increased employment opportunities; better social amenities such as schools, health facilities as well as water and energy provisions that are associated with such projects for the benefit of the people in the entire region for a long time to come. Residents interviewed by The Mandera Times with regards to the possibility of the project being extended to include Mandera expressed great enthusiasm for the project saying it will be a life changing project once it is completed. NB:...AM GLAD TO HEAR THIS, IT IS THE 1ST TIME MANDERA COUNTY GOT ONE OF THEIR OWN IN THER GOVERNMENT & WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THIS 5 YEARS ARE OUR YEARS TO CATCH UP WITH THE REST OF KENYA & SAY GOOD-BYE TO UNDER- DEVELOPMENT, MARGINALIZATION AND ISOLATION BY THE PREVIOUS REGIMES.
