GOOD NEWS: Have you heard? 50 is the new 30! More and more employers are recognizing the value of hiring experienced workers. Older workers have wisdom and common sense, a long work record of accomplishments, more experience, and a higher level of work ethic. Were in good company! Guess whos turning 50 this year? Actress Sandra Bullock, First Lady Michelle Obama, author Dan Brown, philanthropist Melinda Gates, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, just for starters. As the baby boomer generation gets older, many are delaying retirement – in part due to today’s uncertain economy, but for other reasons as well. According to data from the AARP, nearly 70 percent of boomers plan to work past the age of 65. A majority of workers aged 65 and above work report they are in “excellent” health and that the biggest non-monetary reason to continue working is because they enjoy their jobs.
