GOP and rich pupeteers are robbing the Detroit pension fund!! Last summer, four trustees of Detroit’s two public pension funds headed to a Hawaiian beach resort with their $22,000 tab paid for by the funds, which are mired in claims of mismanagement and said to be at least $600 million underfunded. Republicans in Michigan have done everything possible to rob Detroit workers of their pensions. All of a sudden a fully-funded pension fund is gone because Rick Snyder and company secretly drained it, and of late state fund sharing of tens of millions away from Detroit. How could Michigan officials possibly talk about cutting the average $19,000-a-year pension benefit for municipal workers while reaffirming their pledge of $283 million in taxpayer money to a professional hockey stadium? Three of the conservative movement’s goals are shown in this Detroit farce: 1) preservation of job-killing trade policies 2) immunity for corporations and 3) justification for budget policies that continue to profligately subsidize the rich. If you look closely pensioners are foregoing small pensions for the rich.
