GOSHEN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL HISTORY: Goshen laid claim to a mythical state football championship in 1903, posting an 8-0 record and outscoring opponents 167-5. There were no wire service rankings or post-season playoffs 111 years ago. GHS defeated Fort Wayne twice in 1903, Lafayette, Warsaw, South Bend Central, Wabash, Michigan City and Elkhart once each. Fort Wayne was the only foe to score when touchdowns were worth five points. Names on that 1903 team included Donovan, Weatherhead, Cripe, Kurtz, Troup, Bowser, Bauer, Deahl, Hoover, Nymeyer, Kessler and Cornell. Professor Guy Wuthrich was the head coach.
