GRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF GESTALT THERAPY: One-Year Professional Development Training Commencing April 2015 This training will provide a comprehensive introduction to contemporary relational Gestalt Therapy for practitioners with existing qualifications in the helping professions. The program will focus on the personal & professional development of the practitioner as key in the foundation for effective professional practice. Participants will engage with theory and practice in a dynamic group-learning environment. Curriculum • The development of contemporary relational Gestalt Therapy within the broader context of psychotherapy, counselling, and other helping professions • The importance of interpersonal neurobiology in appreciating the helping relationship from a contemporary relational Gestalt perspective • Conceptual practice frameworks for engaging with clients from a relational, experience-near, and embodied focus • Skills in the use of focused awareness (‘mindfulness’) in developing and consolidating client self-regulation and coherent sense of ‘self-in-relation’ • Skills in the practitioner’s ethical ‘use of self’ in the therapeutic relationship • Exploration of the ‘common factors’ of psychotherapy as practiced in relational Gestalt • Engagement in individual Gestalt Therapy sessions as an adjunct to integrating the personal and professional development of the practitioner Gestalt Therapy Sydney also has a student and graduate clinic: “The Relational Institute Australia” that offers affordable counseling to members of the public. Students enrolled in the Grad Cert who are seeking inclusion in a supportive community of practice may be eligible to work in the clinic as a first step towards building a private practice. This opportunity will be available to students who possess previous counseling or psychology qualifications. Who should attend?
