GREENAWALT POUNCES ON FAIRVIEW FIELD (10/24/13) Witnessing - TopicsExpress

GREENAWALT POUNCES ON FAIRVIEW FIELD (10/24/13) Witnessing Wednesdays SCORE program at Fairview Speedway was like watching one of those nature shows on PBS where you see a cheetah run down a helpless gazelle. No matter what the gazelle does, you know the cheetah is just too damn fast. The end is inevitable. It isnt pretty. Such was the story at the USAC dirt champ/sprint doubleheader as Lee Greenawalt found the short nine-driver field easy prey in the hills west of Leesport. Greenawalt dominated the night from the very beginning until the end to earn his first twin-win. In the initial USAC dirt champ event of the season, Greenawalt sped to a perfect 50 point tally by winning all five of his segments without mishap. Meanwhile, the rest of the competition battled tooth and nail throughout the 75 lap distance creating larger than usual wreck totals. The fight for the runner-up spot found Homer Hiester, Dave Balloch, and Mike Lengel tied at 36 markers apiece. Tie-breakers gave Hiester second place and Balloch third over Lengel. Doug Hiester followed one down for fifth. Greenawalts 14-point margin of victory is a SCORE record. If anyone thought Greenawalts assault was over, they were mistaken. The Lancaster Tornado almost ran the table again, compiling four firsts and a second in his segments for a 49-point effort. This time, however, the remainder of the competition returned to typical SCORE racing with very few mishaps during the 50-lap stretch. Eight digits behind Greenawalt, Lengel bested Tim Musser,Sr. in a tie-breaker for the number two spot. Likewise, Balloch nipped Homer Hiester for the fourth position.
