GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR: CHEVIOT KIDS CAN COOK When: Saturday 13th September 2014 Time: 11.00am for everyone. 6pm for finalists Where: Cheviot Area School Who: Open to all Cheviot children ages 11 – 17 years What: Cook something savoury or sweet (entirely your choice) at home and bring it to the school by 11.00 am for judging. All entries to Food Technology room. Entries taken on the day. Whilst the judging takes place, everyone is invited to join the Chef demonstration from 11.00am til 12 noon in the Food Technology room. The Chef demonstration will relate to the mystery box for the 3 finalists. The dishes will be judged and 3 finalists will be chosen for the cook off. The 3 finalists for the cook off to be announced at midday after the Chef demonstration. The Cook Off The cook off will start at 6pm in the Food Technology room at the School. Each contestant will be given a mystery box and will be required to cook a dish using all or some of the ingredients. They will be given one hour to complete their dish. What do the finalists need to bring? The finalists need to bring enthusiasm, their cooking skills, clean and appropriate clothes and shoes, clean hands and a smile! All equipment and food will be provided. Entry fee Parents $10, Kids free. This includes refreshments and cheese platters. Parents - please come along and support your kids, family and community. Tips to help the contestants: Think about what you would like to cook and how long it will take so it looks fresh when you bring it to the school Make sure you check with mum or dad first and discuss your ideas with them Make sure you have all the ingredients you need the day before Make sure you have all the equipment you need and its clean and sanitised Make sure you follow all the food hygiene regulations Allow yourself more time in case you need to do something again REMEMBER – mum and dad are not permitted to help you Good luck
