Gambling On Faith WF, my sweet Faithy-Lou had a bout of colic tonight. I knew it immediately. She never comes to the barn at 4:45. Walked in, circled twice and laid down - for about 45 seconds. Got up, went to the hay, pawed at it then laid down again. I got on the phone to ABC immediately. Banimine at 4:57. She was up and down 13 times ( in a 15 minute period) and started kicking out her bad front leg. Call again to Dr. Faye. We walked, quietly, for 15 minutes and she seemed a little better. Temp was 98.8, gums were pale but responsive, respiratory was normal, could hear mild gut sounds. After an hour, she seemed back to her normal self. Finally at 6:45 she pooped! She wanted to eat and he said it was ok. No grain tonight though. Cause: She was wormed this morning. Worms give off toxins when they die and can cause an upset belly. Baby and Faith were both wormed according to the schedule the Vet has them on. Interesting to watch Miss Bonnie Blue during this whole episode. She kept nudging Faith when she was down and tried to lay down between her legs several times. She knew her mommy was sick. Thank goodness she is alright! MONDAY, this will be our Gaiter Gab topic: COLIC, the bad and the ugly of it, because there is no good, of it. Just wanted to share this now while fresh in my mind, which is like a dishrag about now!
