Game Recap - November 29, 2014! ’12 vs ‘13 As the buzzer sounds—it’s tipoff time! Batch ’12 had their backs against the wall as it’s a do or die game for their 0-4 record. Looking at the numbers, Batch ’13 was more likely to win because of their more favorable record (1-2), and they outnumbered Batch ’12 in terms of the number of players in attendance. Nevertheless, these ‘numbers’ won’t startle the underdogs (Batch ’12) as they had an inspiring game come tipoff time. The first half was a tale of backcourt tandems as ’13 pummels the aggressiveness of Batch ’13, headed by Aaron Lina and Juanito Gregorio. Right off the gate, Batch ’13 had incredible ball movement, and ’12 didn’t seem to come up with plays to answer the barrage of fine plays by Batch ’13. The second half had the same theme as Batch ’13 continued to be aggressive amidst their control on the match. It was again centered on their backcourt tandem, but one of them—Juanito Gregorio, orchestrated the finest of plays drawn up by ’13. Juanito Gregorio who produced a double-double performance (31 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds) led the team with a wire-to-wire win against Batch ’12 who came up winless in the course of the season. 11 vs 10 Speed is the name of the game. Right from the tipoff, both teams were scheming the ‘run and gun’ type of play. Both teams were pushing and thriving on fast break opportunities. There weren’t any distinct differences with the teams except the individual display of rebounding tenacity by Kevin Villanueva. Come second quarter, Batch ’10 was a different team as they started it off with a barrage of scoring display executed by several members of ’10. They rallied to a 37-25 lead at the end, but the individual display of offensive prowess had Kevin Villanueva shouldered his team (Batch ’11) just to a 12-point deficit. The second half had a different account as Batch ’11 and Batch ’12 were toe-to-toe on the score sheet. Amidst the control of ’10 in the match, Batch ’11 was relentless, and kept pushing until both teams were tied late in the 4th quarter. Ferrer hit a clutch 3 late in the 4th quarter to give Batch ’11 its first lead in the game. Together with this was a crucial block by Kevin Villanueva to stop the hot shooting of Batch ’10, but in the end, Batch ’10 won’t be denied as Dela Cruz hits a clutch off-balance shot with 7 seconds left in the 4th quarter, sealing the game.
