Game of the week Round 8 Game of the week took place on Friday night last in the Sean Fallon Centre when Strand Celtic took on STSG Utd. This was a big game, as both teams looked to kick start their season. The game started quickly with both sides fighting to gain the initiative. As the half wore on, Strand begin to get the upper hand and scored through John Kristenhill. The hops midfielder received a good pass from the influential Even Barry and shot home from outside the area. STSG pushed hard for the equaliser before the break but couldn’t make the breakthrough. Gerard Murphy came closest when his shot from distance came back off the crossbar and defender Dillan Conway reacted quickest to clear the danger for Strand. The second half started with STSG pressing on looking for the goal that would draw them level. When Murphy hit the crossbar again it looked like it was one of those days for STSG. Sean Geraghty made the points safe for strand with five minutes left to play. Geraghty was first to react in the box after STSG failed to clear a corner, slotting home from close range. This was the second win in a week for Strand Celtic who are beginning to come to terms with the league and no doubt will look to push on from here. For STSG Utd its back to the drawing board after their third defeat on the bounce, they will be keen to turn their form around when they play Killinascully Wanderers next Wednesday night.
