Game recommendation for couples: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Video Game My wife never really got into PC or console gaming. The few times shes tried, shes found the games too complicated and frustrating to get into, and when Ive tried to play along with her, weve found that most multiplayer games are designed for groups of experienced gamers. We wanted something we could enjoy together even though our experience levels are pretty different. A bunch of the LEGO games are on sale on Steam this week and shes a big fan of the Marvel movies, so I picked up the game and we tried it last night to great success -- she had a blast and so did I. I think the biggest newbie-friendly game design choice (also true of the other LEGO games Ive seen) is that the characters have unlimited lives and the penalty for dying is minimal. So theres never any worry that one players lack of skill will mean they get kicked out of the game halfway through or end up with a score of zero, and even a player who dies a lot can stay in a positive, joyful state of mind since theyre back in the action a few seconds later. The designers realized that the fun of the game is in moving the characters around and doing things, rather than in nervously watching the health meter and trying to remember button sequences. As we play more, I may have more to say, but so far it seems to fit the bill perfectly, and is well worth a look if theres a non-gamer in your life whos interested in giving it a shot.
