Game three recap, TWHL 2014-15 season: TWHL – Week Three Summary From the get-go the Ramkhamhaeng Red Wings were behind the eight ball missing assistant captain Zac Garofolo, Swiss speedster Ernesto Bauer, sniper Reid Wilson and rugged winger Dave McBurney, the latter for the third straight game. They did, however, have talented D-man Remo Nyfenegger, who was making his season debut. But Remo couldn’t do it alone and the depth of the Sukhumvit Stars shone through as they won 7-4 and upped their season record to 2-1. Kyle McCartney, who very early on is making a case for “Rookie of the Year”, led the Stars scoring a hat trick and wowed spectators throughout the game with his nifty stickhandling work. Dugal Monk, Janne Kankaanpaa, Alex Phelps and GM Stephen Sproule tallied singles for the Stars with Phelps goal being the “goal of the night” as he went coast to coast and roofed it over a stunned Jason Cotsmire. Captain John Schachnovsky continued his torrid scoring pace for the Wings notching a hat trick for his eighth goal in three games. After missing several glorious chances GM Scott Murray finally got on the board for Ramkhamhaeng scoring straight from the face-off no less. Stunned Janne Kankaanpaa, who took the face off against Murray was speechless for one of the few times in his life. Dream stopped 11 of the 15 shots he faced for Sukhumvit, while Jason Cotsmire stopped 15 of the 22 pucks he faced. Both teams took “too many men on the ice” penalties and Star defenseman Tommi Haakkinen took the only other minor penalty in the match. Much like Ramkhamhaeng before them, the Rachada Coyotes were in the hole before the game started against Sports Corner missing their captain and the soul of their team, Geoff McIntyre, as well as GM Bob Bulic, the anchor of their blue line. The Coyotes did get off to a good start as Darius Konotpetz scored for the third consecutive game on a nice feed from Andy Brine and young Russian rookie Pavel Voitcekhovski, giving the Coyotes a 1-0 led after one period. Sports Corner roared back in the second period though as super-speedster Sam Wheeler went to work scoring two goals (his seventh in 3 games), including the game winner. Mikhail Shumpei Komatsu added the clincher as the Stars held on to win 3-1and Sukhumvit jumped to 2-1 in the league standings as Ratchada fell to 1-2. The shots were almost even in the game with Rachada firing 20 pucks at young Czech keeper Jan Pilsek and Sport Corner firing 19 shots on Gabor Toth. jogsports
