GameXplain did a video on the various rumors surrounding the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros., and possible new content for the 3DS version. Brace yourselves, because I have a lot to say about this one... https://youtube/watch?v=POBZpLPIcuY I remember reading that NeoGAF rumor, and honestly, I dont buy it. For one thing, Im hesitant towards and rumor thats just text and doesnt have multiple qualifiers and reassurances, back-up proof basically. Sure, Ill keep the rumor in the back of my mind, but I wont believe it. Second, and this isnt anything against this particular rumor, but I have this theory that characters that dont have their own trophies will eventually be playable. My reasoning is that since playable character character trophies can only be unlocked by beating Classic Mode with that character, certain character trophies wont appear until they become available to play as in Classic Mode. This is why I find it suspicious that certain characters like Ridley, Isaac from Golden Sun, and several others dont appear as trophies, despite being popular characters or important towards their respective series. Mewtwo, Dixie Kong, and even the Chorus Men, on the other hand, all have trophies that can be obtainable in the game. Now, some would say they need to unlock the trophies in order to play as them, and the trophies ARE their character models, but I have a problem with that. If you look at all the playable characters in the 3DS version, you notice they have a lot of detail and have pretty in-depth designs. When I look at Dixie Kong and Mewtwo, though... I just dont see that same level of depth and detail. They feel more in-line with their looks from their respective series then they do combatants in Super Smash Bros. You COULD say they can still be playable and that theyd just have additional trophies or theyd replace these trophies with new ones, though quite frankly, I think thats stretching it... Not that I wouldnt like Mewtwo or Dixie Kong, Hell Id love them, but I just dont see them as that likely at this point. As for the Chorus Men, quite frankly, Id rather have Marshal playable, I think hed better represent the Rhythm Heaven series, as opposed to three guys who only appear in one particular mini-game. Besides, if Sakurai had a hard time with the Ice Climbers, hows he going to make the three Chorus Men work? Also, there are rumors of Impa and Mach Rider also being playable, and well, there IS an Impa trophy but its only of her Ocarina of Time appearance, whereas her playable appearance could be more based on her Skyward Sword appearance. I honestly dont see how Impa would be outlandish, after all, she IS a major player in many games in The Legend of Zelda series (Hyrule Historia even claimed she was originally meant to be the bearer of the Triforce of Power before Ganondorf stole it). Just because it hasnt matched up with any rumors beforehand doesnt discredit it. Hell, the Dr. Mario, Duck Hunt, and Dark Pit rumor didnt match up with anything previously, and that ended up being right! Also, Mach Rider would be totally cool, since I once heard that Sakurai is a big fan of having him be playable, but couldnt figure out a proper moveset for him. By the same token, though, I also dont believe any of that Tower of Smash and all those stages thing posted on Reddit/4chan/whatever. Hell, it could very well be the same guy trying to spread the same lie (heh, that rhymes)! Then again, I would LOVE to see that mode, and the boss battles it could have! Oh yeah, Kirbopher DID mention Kraid and a Kremling boss being told to him by a Nintendo rep a while back. I seem to remember him mentioning Bonkers, as well, and Ive actually seen a picture of him in Smash Run. Then again, another Nintendo rep said Rayman was playable, so I wouldnt exactly trust them as a reliable source. If I recall correctly, what Sakurai said in Famitsu was that data in Melee is old, and hard to transfer to the 3DS and Wii U compared to Brawl. He said that he would essentially have to recreate the characters, as if they were newcomers. Really, though, it feels like this comment applies more to Mewtwo then anyone, since the only other Melee exclusive characters are clones, like Dr. Mario, Pichu, and Young Link, who they can easily borrow models and movesets from characters that DID make it, such as Mario, Pikachu, and Toon Link. The only other character I could think he would be talking about is Roy, since Marth is quite a bit different now then he was back in Melee, if only a little. ...Although, the never specifically said Mewtwo wouldnt be in the game, like he did with the Ice Climbers, he just commented that it would be hard. As for the stages... How is NES Remix bad? Yeah, its technically too current, but then again, its based on older games, AND it can be used as Duck Hunts home stage! Technically speaking, the Twilight Princess Shiek despite wasnt created specifically for Brawl, it was based on scrapped concept art for Twilight Princess. I dont know if there is such a thing for Impa, though. Speaking of Star Fox, someone on Miiverse pointed out that even though theres a Wolf trophy, its NOT based on Wolfs design from Brawl. Compare that to the Ice Climbers and Lucas trophies that are in the game, and they both have their designs essentially resemble that of their Brawl counterparts. Not to mention, in Brawl, there are multiple trophies for both Fox and Falco, based on their Assault and Command appearances. Its still entirely possible that Wolf might return to Super Smash Bros. at some point! By the same token, its also entirely possible that Krystal could be playable! She IS my second most-wanted character, after Ridley, so I certainly hope that would be the case! Either way... that credits thing intrigues me a bit...
