Gattaca is a sci-fi flick with what to me felt like an impeccable framework with weak walls. The idea of a future where you can genetically modify your child in the womb so they can be born under your exact parameters is a pretty genius idea. Someone being born genetically flawed, inhabiting the identity of someone who is genetically perfect in order to achieve their dream of going to space is also a pretty solid idea. As far as frameworks go, thats some sci-fi deliciousness. I start having problems with Gattaca when we talk about everything else. Ethan Hawkes character isnt too terribly likeable. He is very much about his mission and even if they try to shove a romance into the flick, he doesnt come off as very caring for anyone else except himself. His character also started making illogical decisions during the final act of the movie that kind of irked me. Jude Laws character was arguably the most interesting character in the whole movie but even though the movie fools you into thinking he will have an arc, his story just ends. I understand why it ended the way it did, but I felt like it was wasted potential. I love Gattaca for the ideas and the message. It deserves praise for that and a nearly flawless first act. But it suffers from a weak third act that left me feeling like something was missing.
