Gender relations can be a challenge - a serious one. You sit at this plane telling yourself you want to talk to no one. So you bury your face into a newspaper. Then a woman sits next to you. Youre not sure if she greeted, but you return the supposed greeting. She sits motionlessly with no initiative whatsoever. Suddenly, you feel you have a responsibility to say something and keep the lady company. You take the blame for the boring silence between you and the lady. But she hasnt suggested she needs to be spoken with. You twitch and lick the lips in readiness to say something. But you are also worried she may read that gesture as a dating proposal. And you know you have no such intentions. Then you shuffle, mumble and fumble throughout the flight without making any sense. She occasionally gives you those one-word responses and withdraws into her cocoon, but you keep on trying at a great risk to your integrity. Kunzima ukuba yindoda. Its tough to be a man.
