Gene Force Indianapolis 1960 in the McKay Kurtis 500J Offenhauser. This Kurtis Kraft 500J was constructed in 1959 and was entered by Roy McKay for the 1959 500 with Chuck Weyant as his driver. This new car used steel running gear components unlike the other new Kurtis built the same year for George Bignotti and the Bowes team. Also this new Kurtis used the upright engine placement as opposed to the laydown configuration. In the 1959 race Chuck ended up being involved in a spectacular accident with Mike Magill in the northeast turn on lap 46 which ended his day and he finished 28th. In 1960 Roy McKay entered the car again with driver Gene Force behind the wheel and his returning head wrench Charlie Altfater. Gene qualified the car at 143.472 on day two to start in 20th position. Genes only previous appearance in the 500 was in 1951. In the race the Midget veteran was running 23rd when the car sustained brake failure which resulted in a wild ride through the pits ending his day. Gene finished the race in 28th place.
