General notice to those visiting this page and those looking for trimming: Heavenly Hooves will not promote the riding of young horses under the age of 5. If you have a young horse in training and want to keep him healthy and barefoot/sound.....please contact me directly so some very simply guidelines can be shared to assist you in keeping your colt/filly in optimum shape for the riding to come when they are of age. Please....many professionals are totally ignorant about the scientific need to wait for maturity before straining these young athletes. This is not just an opinion....it is based on facts, both those from vets and from personal experience in the field of barefoot trimming over the last decade + and before that, years at the racetrack rehabilitating wrecked bodies. equinestudies.org/ranger_2008/ranger_piece_2008_pdf1.pdf There are enough other trimmers out there now that can assist you if you prefer to continue with under saddle training BEFORE age 5 and wish to keep them barefoot... I just need to state that I will not be one of them. A problem can only persist if we choose to be part of the problem. This is the modern horse world now, its a choice, not a necessity. Your young horse can create and keep a gorgeous bare foot all throughout its life....barring severe injury and given the time/correct trim/diet/environment to do so. It is actually quite simple to do. What is hard and sometimes impossible is trying to reverse damage once it has been done, and especially when its structural and at such a formative period in their development. Please educate yourself :)
