George Galloway surpassed even his own lows by declaring Bradford an Israeli free zone, with rhetoric and language straight from 30s Europe. He made the speech in Leeds, where 000s of Jews still live - urging their council to do the same. At first glance, one might think hes merely pandering to the local consensus, that it might go down well among his constituents. But it doesnt - and thats what makes his inciteful and hate-filled comment even more repulsive. About eight months ago, the last schul, a beautiful Moorish-style building faced closure. Minyanim became more difficult to achieve and the roof needed urgent repair. But Zulfi Karim, secretary of the Bradford Council of Mosques raised money from his community to make sure the schul building was repaired, providing the Jewish community of older people to daven for the rest of their lives. Galloway should be arrested and charged for incitement today for his comments - but moreso, he and people like him, Bradford MP David Ward, should be hounded and ostracised into insignificance. Theres no place in our society for Galloway anymore.
