George K. Goalen, 52 Former Petoskey resident, George Goalen, went home to be with his Lord on October 10, 2014, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. He will always be remembered for the great love he had for his family and God, his fun personality and care for people, his great golf game and his love of the Montreal Canadians hockey team. George graduated from Petoskey High School in 1980 and served 4 years in the US Navy before heading to nursing school at NCMC. He worked as an RN for 13 years at Northern Michigan Hospital and the past 9 years at Spectrums Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. Georges passion was for his children and he was a huge fan of watching his son play football at Hope College and hanging out with his two beautiful daughters. George is survived by his wife of 26 years, Vickie, and their three children, Brooke, Keegan and Grace. He was born, July 6, 1962, the son of George T Goalen (Ann) of Thompsonville and the late, Nancy Goalen of Petoskey. He is survived by his brother, Brian (Missy) Goalen of Frankfort and many uncles, aunts and cousins. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Joel (Mary) Evans, mother-in-law, Katie (Cresson) Sanford, brother-in-law, Josh (Emily) Evans, sisters-in-law, Julie (Steve)Matthews, Andrea (Matt)Myaard, Melissa (Larry) Rendulic and Erika Evans. He loved his nieces and nephews very much, Lauren Goalen, Megan (John) Shepard, Lucas & Eva Matthews, Issac, Isaiah & Christian Myaard. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Goalen, nephews, Ben Matthews and Samuel Myaard and niece, Thea Evans. A memorial service for George will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 19, at Fair Haven Church in Hudsonville, MI. Refreshments and a time to visit with the family will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the family to assist with final expenses and education costs for the children, Holland Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter that was dear to Georges heart, or Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods.
