George and Gracie started out on radio in 1932 on CBS as regulars on Guy Lombardo. Guy left and they took over the show. On their 01/04/33 show Gracie casually let the audience know her brother was missing. A week later she dropped in on Eddie Cantors show looking for him. In the weeks to come she would show up on every conceivable radio show, dramas included and on other networks as well, in search of him. She even carried the gag into a few Paramount motion pictures. It was a great publicity stunt and ratings,went through the roof.
