George on the left enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1946. His father had been in the Navy for 30 years so it was a natural choice. His job was that of an Aviation Machinists Mate and was sailing on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Princeton as a Plane Captain for the Skipper of the ship. In 1949 the Princeton and another carrier, the Valley Forge arrived at the Chinese port city of Singtao to the protect a US Marine Squadron that had been helping the Nationalist Chinese fight the Communists. After leaving China, The Princeton sailed to Yokohama, Japan the city still in ruins after the bombing in WWII. George was discharged in 1951 with the rank of AD-2. Jack on the right joined the Minnesota National Guard in September, 1940. On December 7, 1941 Jack was a member of the Coastal Artillery stationed at Treasure Island in San Francisco. In 1943 Jack entered pilot training and eventually began flying the famous C-47 transports. He arrived in Europe in late June, 1944 with the 306th Troop Carrier Squadron in the 442nd Troop Carrier Division. He flew many missions dropping supplies to General Pattons 3rd Army. He also dropped paratroopers in Operation Market Garden in September, 1944. Jacks unit stayed in Germany as part of the occupation force until November, 1945. He stayed in the Reserves for many years retiring 1980 with the rank of Major. Both these veterans were on flight #21. Bill Croom, Historian.
