Dumb tactical mistakes and even dumber micro-scandals seemed to follow him around everywhere. When incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran started campaigning for Democratic (read, black) voters to cross party lines and back him, then it really got ugly... Accusations of bribery to community organizers, deployment of poll-watchers that spooked the NAACP into responding in kind, an increasingly determined McDaniel basically saying his first order of business will be to cut the federal aid that is basically the only thing keeping black community schools open in the state. Thad Cochran is no forward-thinking spring chicken, but at least hes one who knows he owes something to his constituents of all walks of life, now.
