Georgia Weather History for April 16th In 2011, a strong storm system from the previous night continued to move across north and central Georgia. Wind damage, isolated tornadoes and large hail were reported across several areas. Two tornadoes touched down on the 16th. The first occurred near Fort Benning and was rated an EF-1 with winds up to 100 MPH. The tornado removed one fourth of the roof of a dormitory on base, along with portions of the exterior wall of the same building. Numerous cars were flipped or damaged. A second EF-1 tornado touched down in Bibb County. Twenty-five homes sustained damage and approximately 200 trees were downed.
