Georgie, stifle and hips all clear of damage, it appears to be - TopicsExpress

Georgie, stifle and hips all clear of damage, it appears to be related to nerve damage and requires steroids and complete box rest. Fortunately she is a calm sort who doesnt worry about being inside. She is sensitive to the light touch but insensitive to harder pressure. The thermal scan revealed less blood flow in the affected leg but nothing else. She is slightly better tonight after the first steroid dose, she is on powders otherwise its a 100 tablets a day. Once everything settles down a bit more Caroline may try getting a vet who does acupuncture to treat her, as I know from my own nerve damage in my shoulder it is very effective. It seems hard keeping her in and tied up but I have to remember Chocolate who endured 18 months on box rest with a broken pelvis, and look at what he went on to achieve. Had she been older euthanasia would have been a bigger consideration, but she isnt even four, still growing and its better to give her time and see what happens. She eats really well, is happy to see us etc so for me the quality of life is still sufficient to carry on, when sedated today she became weight bearing on the leg, so who is to say it wont suddenly come right as the trauma from the fall heals? To anyone who thinks its cruel look at humans, they have frames drilled into their heads, traction on broken legs etc they dont put them to sleep! We are hoping its a short a time as possible, and she has plenty of attention and ad lib food.
