Germans were once asked how they could put up with Adolf - TopicsExpress

Germans were once asked how they could put up with Adolf Hitler’s brutality and savagery for so long in such a modern era. How could they see and hear but choose not to speak out. Similarly, some Ugandans have eyes and ears but choose not to see or hear. Blame it on our love to love to ‘divert’ ourselves from actualities and instead choose to call them ‘diversionary.’ With all signs of power greed and grip, it is just so amazing that people continue to downplay events that mean more continued breakdown in institutions, more political persecutions or stifling of all political space, more resource wastage. Of course, once not directly affected, one can choose to wear the blindfolds and not see the injustices and unfairness that the rest face every day. It happened with police, until they killed one of their own along Entebbe road. Suddenly, the deadly gang groups were hunted down one by one. Until Gen David Sejusa was himself threatened with arrest, truth telling was a crime as he reminded UPC president Olara Otunnu who had called for a full report on the Luweero war that brought the current establishment into power. For Gilbert Bukenya, it was okay for the country to continue to have only one man with a vision lead until when he wanted the seat himself. For some in the Mbabazi family, the constitution was just some piece of paper that needed not to be respected or followed to the latter until when one of their own was threatened. Police arresting people without reason (for preventive measure) was okay until Amama Mbabazi’s own perceived allies got arrested. Current events point remind us – ignore the current injustices, abuse of power, nepotism, tribalism and corruption today and tomorrow you may just be the next victim.
