Germany to win 2014 World Cup? Germany have a great chance of winning their first World Cup since 1990 next summer in Brazil When the 2014 World Cup kicks off in early June next year, Germany will see it as a huge opportunity to capture their fourth World Cup title. With many of the German players at the peak of their careers and with other nations not as strong as they once were, it could be now or never for this generation of German stars. Germany has made it to the semi-finals of the last European Championship and World Cup as well as making it to the final of the 2008 European Championship, after so much promise for so long they’ll surely believe that now is their time to claim what will be their first World Cup victory since they lifted the trophy back at the 1990 World Cup in Italy. Germany now has the right mix of experienced established players and young stars. Players such as Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm and Lucas Podolski will all be around 30 years of age when the World Cup begins so they should be at the height of their playing ability. They also have the experience of heading to their third World Cup and, having been all the way to the semis in both 2006 and 2010, they know what it takes to make it through to the latter stages of a tournament. Many of their young stars such as Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller and Manual Neuer have played at two major international tournaments now and would feel that they have the experience and the maturity to deal with the pressures that come with representing your country on the grandest stage. Brazil’s demolition of Spain in the Confederations Cup last month may also be a sign that the once all conquering Spaniards time at the top of the international table is coming to an end. Brazil, although very impressive in the final and boasting young stars such as Paulinho, Neymar and Oscar, are still another few years away before they begin to reach their full potential. The success of German domestic teams in the UEFA Champions League this year is surely a sign of the talent and depth running through Germany at the moment. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund both made it to the final of the Champions League, disposing of many teams that had previously been dominant. Bayern Munich’s defeat of Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund’s victory over Real Madrid both give clear examples of this. Both German teams making it through to the final in place of two Spanish sides could also be seen as a eventual power shift at international level. With the amount of talent the German team has at the moment and the success of their clubs in the domestic leagues it could very well mean that, after 24 long years, Germany will be crowned world champions again.
