Get Back Up and Fight! We’ve probably all been there at one - TopicsExpress

Get Back Up and Fight! We’ve probably all been there at one point or another. Life has taken us down. If you haven’t, cheer up, because like an unexpected freight train to it’ll sneak up on you too. Sometimes it’s our own fault. Sometimes the fault belongs to someone else, and sometimes it’s just life, but let’s face it, we get knocked on our asses. Hard. Today, I want to encourage you to get up and fight! It Sucks The most devastating blows in life always seem to come when we’re either on top of the world or confidently making the climb. These life-stoppers don’t just set us back, they take us out of the game. Our business goes under, our spouse cheats on us, the dream crumbles. Whatever your particular atomic blast may have been, it has the potential to leave you confused, hopeless, and asking why. It Ain’t Over During the post traumatic stages it can seem as though life is over. Done. Finished. Start the swan song. It can cause us to feel like we’ve lost our identity – which, trust me, isn’t as bad as it currently seems. It Ain’t Over! Although they seem like trite and shallow words right now, I promise you that it ain’t over! Or at least it doesn’t have to be… I’ll be honest, as long as you’re laying on the ground wallowing in alternating states of self-loathing and self-pity, it’s kind of over. But! As soon as you find the resolve to get back up and fight, the story continues. God turns the page on that chapter of your life and begins writing the next. How Long Will You Stay Down? This post was inspired by a recent realization. I personally like to go after giants. I like to take on challenges that are bigger than I am. Sometimes I win, other times I wake up a week later wondering what hit me. I’ve learned something though. You will get knocked down. We all do. What matters most is not that you didn’t fall, but rather how long it takes you to recover. I’ve been getting better at getting back up faster, and I’ve learned that the faster I get up, the better the overall quality of my life becomes. Practical Tips to Getting Up Faster Avoid the Haters – Many times when we fall, we wound others in the process. Accept responsibility. Ask for forgiveness, but then distance yourself from the people who think you deserve to suffer for your wrongs. Find a Hope Dealer – That wasn’t a spelling error. Nice try. Find those individuals who are filled with faith and hope then immerse yourself in their hope. Seminars, books, even some churches are great sources. Laugh… A lot – Laughter is a powerful prescription for healing. Get your mind off of your situation, and remember to enjoy life. Take breaks and seek out things that make you laugh till you cry. Lend a Helping Hand – No matter how low you are, there is someone in life that you are capable of helping. Call it what you want, but helping others will always supernaturally bring good things into your life. Plan Self Meetings – At least monthly, set aside an evening to meet with yourself. Put it on the calendar and make it a top priority. During this meeting evaluate, assess, set goals, and schedule the next meeting. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. I’ve begun to use my rebound time to gauge my personal growth. Don’t judge yourself because you fell. Congratulate yourself on your will to get back up and fight in spite of it all. The most remarkable people I’ve ever met are consistently those people who have experienced some of the hardest falls and gotten back up. It can seem overwhelming at times, but you CAN do it.
