Get it together, Michigan...I try really hard not to rant about controversial things on Facebook but this makes me so angry (its the public health student in me). I know Im clearly not a parent or anything, but I am pretty sick of people refusing to vaccinate their children for non-medical (re: non-scientific) reasons. Vaccinations work in GROUPS, and only in groups. Choosing not to get vaccinated does not only put your child in danger of catching something, but also puts countless others who arent able to get vaccinated in danger as well, and can put whole communities in danger of outbreaks. If/when I become a parent, if I have a child who is immuno-compromised, has allergies, etc. and cant get vaccinated...I would like to be able to send him/her to school knowing he/she is surrounded by plenty of immune kiddos who can help prevent/contain outbreaks (ditto for myself if I ever become immuno-compromised for some reason for that matter). These diseases (i.e. polio, whooping cough, etc.) havent died out, you are just a fortunate member of a community with herd immunity. Not to mention vaccines are cost-effective. It might seem like a silly thing to care so much about but it is really, truly important, people. UGH okay sorry Im done BYE
