Get ready to go to jail: BNP to PM::::::::::: Senior BNP leader Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah on Sunday said it is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, not Khaleda Zia, who will land in jail and face trial for corruption. “Why should Khaleda go to jail as she is not involved in corruption? You (PM) will have to land in jail and face trial for corruption in Padama Bridge project and for share market and Hall-Mark scams,” he told a discussion. He came up with the remarks responding to the Prime Minister’s observation that if any caretaker government is given charge for an interim period it will try to stay in office forever sending the country’s two top leaders to jail. Addressing a discussion meeting of Awami League on Friday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon BNP chief Khaleda Zia not to advocate for a non-party caretaker government as it may try to cling to power until the doomsday sending them to jail. Reacting to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Rafiqul said there is no point to scare Khaleda talking about jail. “I want to tell you (PM) to get ready as you will have to go to jail and face trial for graft.” He also questioned the premier about the basis of her comment that the election would not be held till the doomsday if there is any caretaker government and asked her not to try to fool people with such comments. Sammalita Chhatra Forum arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club demanding the release of BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu. Rafiqul claimed that people in the recently-held elections to four city corporations have given a mandate for restoration of the caretaker government through electing BNP-backed candidates. He also hoped that people will also elect the BNP-baked mayoral runner in the election to Gazipur City Corporation slated for June 6. The BNP leader warned the government that they will realise their demand for the reinstatement of the caretaker government system through a street movement. He said BNP leader Pintu is a victim of political conspiracy as he has been put into jail in “false” cases. BNP executive committee member Ismail Hossain Bengal, Jagpa President Shafiul Alam Pradhan, among others, spoke at the programme held with Sammalita Chhatra Forum convener Nahidul Islam Nahid in the chair.
