Get to know your trail steward I started riding a Mountain Bike - TopicsExpress

Get to know your trail steward I started riding a Mountain Bike in the Spring of 2010. I weighed 255 lbs and rode my sons Mongoose at Northshore. Although the Mongoose looked like a mountain bike it was totaled halfway through the second ride. I ran across the DORBA website and learned more about the organization while I was looking for beginner friendly trails in the area. I became a DORBA Member in December 2011. I attended my first Trail Workdays at Northshore in the Fall of 2010 to give back to the trail where I ride most. I enjoy doing work on the trails and I still attend all of the Northshore Trail Workdays. My son asked me why I spend so much time working on the trail, I replied “So I can ride for free”! All of the trails are maintained by volunteers so I want to do my part. In 2011 Knob Hills did not have a Trail Steward. The trail was overgrown and needed a lot of work. I volunteered to be the Knob Hills Assistant Trail Steward. We spent the first year doing basic maintenance to get the trail back to DORBA standards. We then started building a loop so we would have a safer one-way trail. The Trail Steward position at Knob Hills became available in January 2014 and I was glad to step up to take on that role. My goal is to complete the loop at Knob Hills and leave the trail better than it was when I got involved. See you on the trail, Fran Desautels Knob Hills Trail Steward [email protected]
