Getting To YES! XI. The “Status Quo”?... Very few. If any negotiations have the objective of maintaining a “Status Quo”. Indeed, it would be a Monumental Mistake for any two parties to debate over a protracted period, and then conclude that the “Status Quo” was their B.A.T.N.A.? To argue for things to remain the same, is tantamount to Insanity. To even Imagine, that, matters could ever stay the same, not change or delude yourself into beliving that an ephemeral “Status Quo” could exist for longer than the time it takes to say “Status Quo” is also, Insanity. ‘Evidence’ of this simple, but incontrovertible Fact is ‘Illuminate’ Brilliantly - by one of the stories I learned as a child. Family ‘Wisdom’ handed down through the generations. One day, one of my ancestors was out fishing with his grandson. On one of the ‘Great Scottish’ rivers. Much Bigger than the mere streams we witness today. Where the bulk of their body, has been stolen, thieved and “Aquired” by ‘Reservoirs’? In the days, when Scots could fish freely, on both banks, with no ‘Request’ that they wait until “May” before they could sustain their families, with ‘Silver Bars’ and ‘Massive Salmon’. Much Bigger than a mere 64Lbs. Which could also, be caught by men, as well as women. Whilst walking along the river bank, returning home with their catch. The grandson asked his grandfather a question: “Grandfather, if I’m very quick, very, very quick can I put my foot in the same piece of water twice”? The old man did not answer quickly, as the boy expected. The boy became impatient and asked the question again… The old man smiled widely, maybe the boy’s impatience reminded him of his own impatience many years ago… “WELL” the boy DEMANDED? My son, the old man replied: It is not possible to put your foot in the “Same piece of water once”. Perplexed, by this, the boy asked why is that? The old man answered very slowly: Because, by the time you move your leg and your foot… to put it in the “Water”, the piece of water that you were looking at is gone away, way, way down stream and out of sight!... Accordingly, in any negotiation a “Status Quo” can be Alluded to, Imagined or DEMANDED – But, it’s impossible for a “Status Quo” to exist. A “Status Quo” Did Not, Will Not and Cannot Ever Exist. The “Status Quo” is a contrived notion, that means, offers and will only be what those who contrive it want to be. For Their Benefit…
