Getting kinda concerned about Syria these days. Hence..a new poem/song taking form. "From the Cradle to the Grave" In the Tigris and Euphrates some 10,000 years ago they bent burnt shoulders to the plow and made a garden grow From tribes to towns to Babylon cultures spread thru the Levant They piled the bricks tended herds and coaxed rich crops from plants Hammurabi gave us our first laws while Moses gave men faith Cheops gave us pryamids that are standing still today I long for the hanging gardens and the temples made of stone The far-off din of trumpets as the chariots rolled home It all seems death and dust today as the bombs tear flesh and bone A tattered crescent flag now flies over dusty, ruined plains While the Sunni fight the Shia no golden wheat will wave and an ancient feud could lead us all from the cradle to the grave. From tumbled towers in the new world to the leash at Abu Ghraib the dye is cast we move too fast from the cradle to the grave
