Getting to go down on the field before the 1999 MLB all-star game - TopicsExpress

Getting to go down on the field before the 1999 MLB all-star game was an amazing experience. I got to meet so many players and reporters - some were so nice, others not. But, what has always stood out in my mind from that day was the 20 minutes or so I got to spend with Stuart Scott. Having watched him on TV I could not have been more excited to meet him. The fact that he took it upon himself to show me around and introduce me, as his friend, to people like Chris Berman and Randy Johnson has always stuck with me. Upon hearing that I wanted to be a broadcaster when I grew up, he even worked with me to come up with a signature catchphrase! Given where I was in my life at that point, these gestures meant the absolute world to me. Earlier this year Stuart Scott said that you beat cancer by the way you live your life. I have no idea what he was like outside of that day and off camera. However, I will always remember how he treated me, an unremarkable kid, and will continue to be inspired by how he chose to live life on that particular day 15 years ago. RIP Stuart Scott. And thank you.
