Getting your flu shot could be a lot less painful—and a lot more effective—thanks to research conducted by the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center (VIC) at Mass General. A study co-authored by VIC researchers Mark Poznansky, MD, PhD, and Satoshi Kashiwagi, MD, PhD, demonstrated that one-minute exposure of skin to laser light may significantly boost the effectiveness of the flu vaccine without the adverse effects—including inflammation and tissue damage—of the chemical additives that are currently used to boost efficacy.
